Court Etiquette

Just a reminder, our parties provide a fun and relaxing atmosphere, where players can have friendly competition. We simply ask attendees to follow these guidelines:

1. Introduce yourself to the new players on the court. This will make for a more wholesome experience.

2. Be cordial to your partners and opponents.

3. Refrain from giving instructions to anyone on the court unless they request them.

4. Do not gun for the person at the net with fast and hard hitting especially in mixed doubles.

5. Kindly pick up the balls for the server. It saves time and is just good etiquette.

6. When yo leave the court, please find the 3 balls you played with and leave them for the next group of players.

7. Do not call a ball out when you or your partner are unsure about a line call. It is unsportsmanlike and can stir unpleasant reactions.
Check USTA or other tennis websites for the official rules.

8. If you are scheduled to play the next hour, do not take more than a 10-minute break. There are players who play only 2 hours and could use the complete playtime.

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | December 28 – Jan 3, 2016

The Saturday party was equally as large as the Friday party, filled with post-holiday people who want to work off some pounds or just get in their tennis fix. One player from Cliffside Parks signs up – “If it’s Saturday, it must be tennis!” That sums it up pretty well for all the Tennis Buffs.

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | November 30 – Dec 6, 2015

A regular from Hoboken who plays all over NY and NJ, brought 2 friends from Jersey City and Weehawken. As if a mayor of Lincoln Park, he meets so many players and has introduced quite a few to the group over the years. He kids that he’s going to start a car service just for my parties but he actually drove both of them. Thanks for telling friends about the group!

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | November 16 – 22, 2015

What it takes to find a fourth for a weeknight when there are only 2 hours of tennis and the level should be close. After a couple of weeks of constant nudging, I was surprised and flattered that a hard worker from Hoboken left work early for a day to attend…

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | October 19 – 25, 2015

Again this week a player from Jersey City brought a new player. I call him the mayor from his apartment complex as he has an infinite number of tennis friends and even though he’s just met them recently, he looks as if he’s known them for years. Easily meeting and recruiting players, he can easily create a position as mayor!

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | September 28-Oct 4, 2015

I finally got to see a player whose daughter is now 5 months old. I’m glad he got a little break and got together with his buddy for a little tennis fun. They both shook off their rust after and hour or two and were wiped out by the end of the third hour, 2 young guys! It’s a compliment to me that they lasted 3 hours. Hope it won’t be another 5 months before they stop by again.

Support poured out from players near and far: Boonton, Englewood, Fort Lee, Glenn Rock, Jersey City, Kinnelon, Lincoln Park, Livingston, Paramus and Parsippany. Even a player who moved to California came to play with old friends. Everyone had a great time a new home for weeknight tennis!

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | September 14-20, 2015

As the cool nights are nearing, players are coming indoors and the warm days are numbered, players are still able to play outdoors a while longer. I’m enjoying this change in season and am looking forward to the next several weeks before the cold weather comes….

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | September 7-13, 2015

Saturday night parties are back! Players are returning to regular fun. It should be a regular thing now without any interruptions. I even got to play at the end of the night with my partner Dwight vs a fun player from NYC (whom I played with regularly several years ago) and a recent newcomer who’s super fast on the court…

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | August 31 – Sept 6, 2015

More former regulars signed up the same day unbeknownst to each other that they each signed up. As soon as the former Montclair regular arrived, she said “It’s a party and all that’s missing is party music.” But then she rescinded it because she finally heard the music when she got on the deck, a nice stereo feature at the lake…
