LAST WEEK’S RECAP | Nov 12 – 18, 2012

I’ve always admired old-style tennis, the classic serve and volley, which we rarely see nowadays. In addition, the holding of 2 balls in 1 hand while serving never ceases to amaze me. A couple of weeks ago at Washington Township, a player did just that and has been doing it since 1958! I just love to watch him play.

I also admire people who are involved kids’ lives and being positive role models, etc. A Hoboken regular wanted to finish playing early as she was doing a 5k run with her niece the next day. Her niece even got her a Girl Power T-shirt for the event. What a great organization “Girlsontherun.org” is.

A Friday/Sunday regular from Jersey City said he had to skip this week because he had an operation. I wished him a speedy recovery to which he replied – “I feel fine but the doctor told me I can’t play.” It sounds like something I used say when I was a kid LOL.

Here’s an interesting e-mail sign-off from a Sunday player from West Milford.
“Abeunt studia in mores.” Translation: “What one trains frequently, will become part of his character” Ovidius

Coincidentally a regular from Mahwah expressed to me – “You become what you surround yourself with.”

I can only think of surrounding myself with positive influences.
