Court Etiquette

Just a reminder, our parties provide a fun and relaxing atmosphere, where players can have friendly competition. We simply ask attendees to follow these guidelines:

1. Introduce yourself to the new players on the court. This will make for a more wholesome experience.

2. Be cordial to your partners and opponents.

3. Refrain from giving instructions to anyone on the court unless they request them.

4. Do not gun for the person at the net with fast and hard hitting especially in mixed doubles.

5. Kindly pick up the balls for the server. It saves time and is just good etiquette.

6. When yo leave the court, please find the 3 balls you played with and leave them for the next group of players.

7. Do not call a ball out when you or your partner are unsure about a line call. It is unsportsmanlike and can stir unpleasant reactions.
Check USTA or other tennis websites for the official rules.

8. If you are scheduled to play the next hour, do not take more than a 10-minute break. There are players who play only 2 hours and could use the complete playtime.

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | October 21 – 27, 2013

The previous week a father came with his son who’s in his 20’s from Mahwah. He fit well in this group people of various ages. It’s impressive that a young person is inspired to train other youngsters to achieve wonderful things that come with sports: health, confidence, friends, etc…

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | October 14 – 20, 2013

A newcomer from Tenafly was so happy that we started the Tenafly season and immediately signed up. A newcomer from Mahwah heard about the group through a player from Fort Lee attended for the first time tonight. He was so gracious to offer me a ride since we’re almost neighbors. The smooth ride made me feel like I was riding in a limo. A recent newcomer from Lyndhurst said he was “very excited to have found this group.” Young and energetic, he plays almost everyday, anywhere he can play. Kudos to him!

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | October 7 – 13, 2013

Last week we were able to get in our last tournament for the year. More players got a glimpse of what Tennis Buffs tournaments are like and will most likely join from the start of next summer. It was a good idea, a lot of fun and good learning experience. Not bad for the first-timer me!

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | September 30 – Oct 6, 2013

Sometimes when you’re learning to play or you’re too good – you can’t find anyone to play with. But here I find players of similar level to gather the same night to meet for weekly tennis. The players that are too good – they’re in a league of their own since most of us can’t keep up with them. It’s nice that there’s a place for them and there’s genuine camaraderie among them…

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | September 23 – 29, 2013

Sadly a couple of regulars, who had just moved to NYC from Edison just last year, are moving to Palo Alto, CA. They have become such an integral part of the group. I will miss them dearly. Maybe they will miss the hustle and bustle pace of the East Coast and return next year.
