Court Etiquette

Just a reminder, our parties provide a fun and relaxing atmosphere, where players can have friendly competition. We simply ask attendees to follow these guidelines:

1. Introduce yourself to the new players on the court. This will make for a more wholesome experience.

2. Be cordial to your partners and opponents.

3. Refrain from giving instructions to anyone on the court unless they request them.

4. Do not gun for the person at the net with fast and hard hitting especially in mixed doubles.

5. Kindly pick up the balls for the server. It saves time and is just good etiquette.

6. When yo leave the court, please find the 3 balls you played with and leave them for the next group of players.

7. Do not call a ball out when you or your partner are unsure about a line call. It is unsportsmanlike and can stir unpleasant reactions.
Check USTA or other tennis websites for the official rules.

8. If you are scheduled to play the next hour, do not take more than a 10-minute break. There are players who play only 2 hours and could use the complete playtime.

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | June 10 – 16, 2013

Players from NY this week wanted to break their record last week. Last week there were 50% New Yorkers. This week there were 70%. As I watched the matches, I wondered why they don’t carpool. It must be that they ride the subway all week long and the chance to drive to suburban NJ sounds appealing…

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | June 3 – 9, 2013

I’d like to share something I learned about tennis and life through my years of tennis and from people I’ve met along the way, particularly one player from Boonton who has played sports his whole life and is one of the top 5 players of the group. When I first met him in 2008 or 9, about 26 years old at the time, didn’t seem to care that there were other good players in the group…What I learned from the Boonton player is that while tennis important, the friendships he made were more so.

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | May 27 – June 2, 2013

We are so excited to have met a newcomer who’s attended the last 2 weeks. A perfect fit for the group, he has met so many people and even hung out with several of them at the end of the party. Upon request, he treated us to samples/staples of baked goods from his family bakery including flogera, kourabiedes, finikia and afali and of course baklava. Fourth generation baker, he makes the phyllo by hand which he uses for his savories and desserts. Immediately he hit it off with another player and he’s sure to go there during lunch or after work…
