Court Etiquette

Just a reminder, our parties provide a fun and relaxing atmosphere, where players can have friendly competition. We simply ask attendees to follow these guidelines:

1. Introduce yourself to the new players on the court. This will make for a more wholesome experience.

2. Be cordial to your partners and opponents.

3. Refrain from giving instructions to anyone on the court unless they request them.

4. Do not gun for the person at the net with fast and hard hitting especially in mixed doubles.

5. Kindly pick up the balls for the server. It saves time and is just good etiquette.

6. When yo leave the court, please find the 3 balls you played with and leave them for the next group of players.

7. Do not call a ball out when you or your partner are unsure about a line call. It is unsportsmanlike and can stir unpleasant reactions.
Check USTA or other tennis websites for the official rules.

8. If you are scheduled to play the next hour, do not take more than a 10-minute break. There are players who play only 2 hours and could use the complete playtime.

Last Week’s Recap | Jan 24 – 29, 2012

Thursday (Jan 26)
Four players, 3 from NYC and 1 from Tenafly, had so much on the court on Tuesday. Unbeknownst to each other, three of them signed up. When there was one more spot left, I told the fourth that the other 3 signed up. He said yes, he wanted a rematch and to keep them together for both hours. One donned a bandana and his partner a ninja head tie. Their opponent donned a cap but his partner had none. I must not have paid close attention because in the 2nd hour the one without head gear suddenly wore the same ninja head tie, except he’s got some sort of lettering on the front, it probably said The Ninja Master!…

TUESDAY (Jan 17th)
After a 2-3-year break to play golf, a player from Fort Lee returned to tennis a couple of months ago and more frequently a couple of weeks ago. He’s enjoying tennis again, finding it a treat to have a moment off from being a first-time dad to a 2-month newborn. Congratulations!

Last Week’s Recap | Jan 9 – 15, 2012

TUESDAY (Jan 10th)
A player from Edgewater had been away for so long, but surprised everyone by playing so well. Sometimes you play better when you don’t remember your bad habits, not that he has one. I’m glad he’s back, he’s so nice to be with on/off the court. Many times women request to play mixed doubles with him and he always gladly obliges. A player from Bloomfield (the one with 3-year-old twins) had such a fun time tonight. He was very funny on the court. No wonder many players, even some serious one, ask to be on his court….
