LAST WEEK’S RECAP | March 3 – 9, 2014
This week I had the pleasure of meeting a few newcomers from Madison, Morris Plains.
On Friday night I paired up co-workers from Morris Plains and Wharton to play with two brothers from Garfield. I told them that whatever they did wrong to the Garfield player, his older brother will take care of them good on the court. The player from Leonia clarified it for me – “It’s called ‘Gotcha!’ tennis.” I’m sure it was a fun hour.
A former Saturday regular, now Friday regular, said he forgot how many good players there were on Saturday nights, not that there aren’t on Friday nights. It’s that there are more players, and thus, more players at all levels. I tried to convince him to stay playing Fridays because Friday players loving having him there, as well as I.
It was nice to see an old friend this past Saturday. He spent the last few years installing healthcare system in Kenya. Whenever he’s back in town, he comes see his friends at the parties. This Saturday he’s coming with another friend he met at the Saturday night parties. It’ll be good to see him too. We call him a gentle giant, one of the tallest and friendliest.
A tidbit…. My doctor plays at the Saturday night parties, my chiropractor came two and three weeks ago and will be coming this week. Now my orthopedic doctor-to-be came to the parties a couple of weeks ago as well. I have only one friend that does not play tennis. Almost all of my nieces and nephews play tennis, which of course was due to my influence. It’s no coincidence, my world is surrounded by tennis players.
