LAST WEEK’S RECAP | June 1 – 7, 2015

FRIDAY
A player from Little Falls started playing at the Friday parties again to supplement her weekly game. She goes to Florida for the month of April and takes lessons the whole time she’s there just so she can get better because she loves tennis so much. Many of you know I admire people who aspire to be more regardless of how old they are. Also at the Friday party there was so much chatter about the French Open. This is where I get tennis news since I rarely have time to watch TV, let alone professional tennis.

SATURDAY
Saturday party was fun.

SUNDAY
After having golfed earlier in the day Sunday, a Friday/Sunday regular from Essex Fell showed up at the Sunday party and handed me $40 and said all he wanted to do today was eat. I told him the party was $30 today and he said he would pay $40 just to eat because Dwight’s food is so worth it. He’s amazed what kind of food Dwight makes, both quality and quantity. It’s unlike me to have a player show up and not play. So of course I put him in a match and he and the players on his court were glad he played.

Four friends from Jersey City got together to try out the Sunday Packanack party and had a great time. They played from the beginning to the end without any breaks and probably could play more since they’re only in their 20’s. It was great having them play amongst themselves as well as mixing in with new friends at the party. They plan on coming again.

A player originally from Long Island came with a player from Whippany. At the end of the party he sat back to enjoy the deck and the evening, so laid back as if he were in his own backyard. I introduced another former Long Islander to him as she was leaving. Soon they started talking about Hempstead Turnpike and some other major L.I. highways before talking about the Triple Crown and the interesting story of American Pharoah.

A player from Gillette brought her 12-year-old son for the first time to Packanack. His parents are both tennis players and naturally they started him playing a few years ago. He really enjoyed playing at the Sunday party and will come again.

A player from Kearny who came for the first time about 5 years ago is back, playing Friday and Sunday. He practiced with his partner and former college player from Rutgers for an upcoming league match and thoroughly enjoyed himself on Friday and even more so on Sunday. He will start to be a regular. It’s nice having him back!
