LAST WEEK’S RECAP | August 24 – 30, 2015

FRIDAY
As I gave out court assignment to players from NYC, Englewood, Jersey City and Rumsen, I told the Jersey City player not to slam hard balls at the lady opponent. When they finished, I asked how everything was. The female player from Rumsen said it was fun, they had a lot of laughs. She and her partner from Englewood said enough of the drop shots. The Jersey City player said – “Well Penny told me not to slam balls.” They all had fun and laughed the whole time.

SATURDAY
It was nice to be back at Saturday night tennis and see old friends. Player from Palisade Park was happy I was back and said to keep it going every week. Then in the end he said he won’t be available he next two. So much for the every week excitement.

A fairly recent newcomer also said she will be coming regularly. She even took lessons over the summer to keep up with the rest of the group. I like her gumption.

SUNDAY
A player from Jersey City brought a friend from Bridgewater area. They met when they both just about came right out of college and now one is retired. Now that’s quite a friendship. They met up, played and caught up with each other. The friend had a nice time and hopes to bring his wife before the outdoor season ends.

A player from Hartsdale wanted to play a little more because summer is almost ending but she overdid it. She thought she would play 20 more minutes in the end but it turned into an hour. Her stretching afterwards made up for it.

I asked a player from Edgewater if he wanted some refreshing watermelon. He said he wanted vodka and Advil. He had a nice time – “6 Sets, good people, good workout.” He hopes to be back before the end of the season.
