Court Etiquette

Just a reminder, our parties provide a fun and relaxing atmosphere, where players can have friendly competition. We simply ask attendees to follow these guidelines:

1. Introduce yourself to the new players on the court. This will make for a more wholesome experience.

2. Be cordial to your partners and opponents.

3. Refrain from giving instructions to anyone on the court unless they request them.

4. Do not gun for the person at the net with fast and hard hitting especially in mixed doubles.

5. Kindly pick up the balls for the server. It saves time and is just good etiquette.

6. When yo leave the court, please find the 3 balls you played with and leave them for the next group of players.

7. Do not call a ball out when you or your partner are unsure about a line call. It is unsportsmanlike and can stir unpleasant reactions.
Check USTA or other tennis websites for the official rules.

8. If you are scheduled to play the next hour, do not take more than a 10-minute break. There are players who play only 2 hours and could use the complete playtime.

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | March 4 – 10 2013

As players arrived they noticed that I had just gotten a very short haircut, fit for spring time. I replied that since I don’t have beautiful hair like those ladies, pointing to the women, it’s best kept short. One of the male players from Jersey City said he has beautiful hair but he still keeps his short. Both men and women broke into a laugh, a good icebreaker…

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | Feb. 25 – March 3, 2013

he Yonkers player beat his opponent from Elizabeth. I told the Elizabeth player that the good news is that the Yonkers player normally plays on Saturdays, to which he replied – “One of these days I’m going to play on a Saturday so I can beat you [Yonkers player]” and they both smiled. I love friendly rivalries…

Amazingly a player from Bergenfield had just landed at the airport after a 10-hour flight from Hawaii and attended both Friday and Saturday nights. He left Sunday and back Friday. Kudos to him for being young and energetic! He had just missed another player-friend from Nanuet who was just there the week prior for his honeymoon…

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | February 11 – 17, 2013

It was like being at a Valentine’s Day Weekend Celebration. Loved ones, including friends, couples, non-couples got together to spend a nice evening at Saturday night party. It was so nice to see so many smiles, although that has been true of other party nights also. People come to tennis to enjoy themselves and be happy. I just can’t stop being amazed every time I see that!

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | February 4 – 10, 2013

An old friend from Hoboken attended again, bringing back memories from 10 years ago, although my memory (and math skills) leave much to be desired. A few of us talked about how long ago that was and what we remembered. The main thing I remember is that those were the good old days. I’m looking forward to good new days!

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | January 28 – Feb 3, 2013

It seems left-handed players are omnipresent every night of the week this season. Tonight four lefties from Fair Lawn, Greenwood Lake, Hoboken and Ridgefield attended. Not realizing they were all lefties, I matched them up. It turned out to be great synergy and first meeting. They laughed, played and applauded each other’s shots…

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | January 14 – 20, 2013

Everyone was glad to be back, like Home Sweet Home! It’s just a special place where so many have played for years, including me (since the early 90’s). People also like the Binghamton because it’s close to NYC. Some have said they love the drive there, it’s almost like going out to NYC. They like looking at the skyline on the way in and during their hour off…

LAST WEEK’S RECAP | December 17 – 23, 2012

It is admirable for someone playing for a long time to be inspired to change and actually follows through with it, in life, in tennis or whatever endeavor it may be. There were 3 humble players tonight who are ready to take that leap to improve their skills and not be afraid to find what improvements they can make…
